As government lifts various restrictions for offices and businesses in India, we can expect some corporate employees to be reunited with their work desks and chairs and other office facilities that they haven’t seen for months together. With the total staff capacity broken down into three sections and deploying then at different shifts, most offices have started full-fledged functioning. While most companies are now thinking of bringing together the employees who were working from home for a long time, the process should be carried out very thoughtfully. This pattern is followed in most major countries across the world.

With public officials and politicians working in a way that’s close to normalcy. But offices and business organisations are exercising a great deal of caution for planning their next move. In most states, it is found that the general tendency of the offices is to carry on with their work from a home structure with no rush to have their employees back in the office. So the question arises, when will these cautiously carved plans be materialised? When it does, employees will return in waves instead of the all-at-once module.

Heath and safety concerns for the employees such as wearing masks, using hand sanitisers and maintaining social distance bad others can be better practised can be effectively managed with reduced staff members. And all these indicate that remote working is perhaps the safest option right now. One of the most important points highlighted by the CEO of a well-known business house is that no matter what the centre or the state say, there shouldn’t be any action with respect to moving forward to occupy the sites until they believe that they are ready to do so.

Before going back to normal, all businesses must ensure that they have managed all the necessary cleaning and disinfection prerequisite. These requirements can vary from industries to industries but there are some common guidelines to be followed by businesses across different industries. Even though the facility managers may feel that they are all set to have the employees in the office, there are other factors to consider as well: the most important of which is to figure out how the employees will get to their office?

It would be great if the offices can arrange for private bus services for transporting the employees from home to office. But this is not feasible for all companies particularly the small and medium scale enterprises operating in our country. And in such cases, chances of contamination still remains. Everybody wants to get back to work, but nobody wants to get back to a place that’s not safe. 

Managing safety in workplaces

Many companies are considering deploying sanitation counters and similar other functionalities within the office to keep the workers healthy. The coronavirus is not here to go away in the recent future and therefore, all business organisations must take their time to conduct proper research for maintaining health and safety in workplaces. Those areas in green zones have the gate pass to open and operate from an office, nonetheless, they must also practice the safety measures.

There are a number of businesses that are waiting to reopen and they are perhaps not careful enough because they do not have the resources to sit back and think of how to mitigate these factors and as a result, they pose a threat to the employee’s bad consumers and the society at large. The real consideration for an organisation

What actually matters in this crisis, is to determine how much of space is required at any given time. Large business houses have shown that they can easily weather away from the crisis and operate normally in a steady manner while maintaining the safety of the place in a sustainable manner.

It is imperative that the businesses should not function with more than 50 percent of employees at a time. Going back slowly will also ensure that no organisation will have to lose any critical employee to illness. As a direct outcome of this, many companies will upsize so that the employees can get more space to spread out and, thereby, maintain the much required social distance. 

All organisations have a focus on the health and safety of the employees and some businesses are fortunate enough to operate and grow from remote locations. But some businesses are having to work on-site and they must follow the lead of the local safety officers for discussing new processes that can ward off the coronavirus successfully.
