Five Trends in Industrial Facilities Management

Five Trends in Industrial Facilities Management

Initially, the maintenance of the infrastructure and equipment are the basic objective of facility managers, but now they are looking after and managing the whole process of industrial building.

Its  scope has been increased but still, there are some challenges which they face while delivering their services to the industry and some of them are:

  1. Continuous advancement in technology

Technology is changing every day, with its advancement there is an increase in collaboration between Facilities management and IT sector. Data gives the benefit to facilities management to identify the issues before they become huge and degrade the performance.

So it can be said that data is helpful for optimizing the performance of the building. Data can be used to keep the record of every possible event of the workflow for an example the data captured in the cooling and heating process can be utilized to determine the efficiency of energy consumption. The integration of facilities with technology leads to the smooth running of operations of the building.

2. Sustainability and energy efficiency

The company has to bear the cost of energy consumed in its each and every operation. The organization has to pay so much money on the higher energy consumption. So if there is less consumption of energy then it will automatically reduce the expenditure of money on the energy. Data and technology can be used as two major ways to reduce its consumption and to ensure its effective utilization.

Most of the organizations are implementing the concept of Green building to encourage sustainable development without harming the environment.

3. Integrating systems

Systems are integrated with the motive to achieve the maximum efficiency in energy utilization. Nowadays companies are implementing the concept of commissioning to support facility managers for integrating building systems. According to the  American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Commissioning is the process which ensures that the designing, installation, and functional testing of building system are able to be maintained properly with respect to the design intent.

The rapid enhancement in the use of commissioning strategies has given a new definition of specialization in the process to the consultant.

4. Requirements for meeting the real world challenges

one of the major concern is staffing or we can say that the lack of skilled staff. With the increasing demand for facility management services, there is a demand for skilled staff to manage those services. Companies are looking for the fresh talent and skilled employees to cope up and meet the requirements of the 21st century.

The increment in staffing constraints also results in the increment of partnerships that can help to make better decisions for the organization with the help of 2nd opinion from trusted partners.

5. Health and safety

For any organization, the health and safety of its employees are two main concerns because every employee wants to have a safe job environment where one can work and give the better output to the company. The safety parameter includes the proper arrangement of light facility in the premises as well as in the parking area, fire evacuation plan etc.Facility managers are are continuously working hard to provide a safe and healthy environment to the staff.

All these trends are making the Industrial facility management services more flexible and adaptable as per the need of industry.
